AGRITECH.COM | Globe Prepares Emergency Services as Taal Produces Volcanic Haze: Libreng Tawag, Charging, and WiFi services available. | As the Taal Volcano continues to produce volcanic smog that may imperil communities in the vicinity, Globe is preparing to deploy its Libreng Tawag, Charging, and WiFi services in Batangas evacuation centers.

The Taal Volcano, which has been restive since its eruption a year and a half ago, is still on Alert Level 2 or Increased Unrest. Taal’s main crater has recently been detected releasing excessive levels of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Exposure to these gasses can irritate the eyes, throat, and respiratory tract, and is particularly dangerous for persons who have allergies or lung difficulties.

Globe informs the public that its technical and support employees are constantly on call, and that standby generators are ready to be used by its facilities to ensure that communications services remain up and running, as part of its increased disaster preparedness strategy.

Affected residents should also stay indoors, stock up on food and drink, prepare face masks and first-aid kits, keep extra flashlight batteries on hand, and charge their phones, according to the telecom.

Meanwhile, Globe is assisting the provincial government of Batangas in stocking its major evacuation center with essential materials for evacuees.

In support of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s disaster preparedness program, Globe delivered over 1,000 essential supplies to the Batangas provincial government, including blankets, bedsheets, pillows, towels, electric kettles, and lamps, among other items (DSWD).

“We are committed to assisting the local and national governments, particularly in the event of calamities and disasters. We are ready to provide relief assistance for our customers and the affected communities, whether through free calls, texts, charges, or internet connectivity,” stated Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

“One of our main projects to mobilize resources in preventing risk and decreasing existing risk is to form relationships with the business sector and diverse industries. We must continue to work together in the face of a pandemic and the prospect of another Taal Volcano eruption. “Private sector efforts are very appreciated,” said Lito Castro, the head of Batangas’ Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
