As of June 2021, the country’s mobile leader had more than 770,000 5G devices linked to its network, outnumbering the competition’s 520,000.
“This statistic demonstrates that we are on the right track in our efforts to make 5G technology more widely available and accessible to our customers. It also demonstrates that an increasing number of our customers are realizing the benefits of 5G in terms of delivering a better mobile experience,” said Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu.
The fifth generation of mobile networks is known as 5G. It promises unparalleled speeds and near-real-time latency, opening up a world of limitless possibilities for Filipinos as more places become 5G-powered smart cities, bringing new experiences in retail, entertainment, gaming, and healthcare.
The network’s devices will be able to function in big groups and transport data in a fraction of the time. On a 5G network, a consumer can download a two-hour movie in seconds, versus many minutes on a 4G network. Globe 5G outside coverage now covers at least 92 percent of the National Capital Region, thanks to Globe’s persistent expansion. 5G is already available in 85 percent of Cebu City, 77 percent of Boracay Island, 75 percent of Bacolod City, and 66% of Iloilo City in Visayas. In Mindanao, Globe has 5G connectivity in 77 percent of Davao City and 80 percent of Cagayan de Oro. More 5G network deployments are underway, with seven new 5G cell towers being installed in General Santos City and four more in Zamboanga City.
